The first installment focuses on the building block “Frustration” and explores those things/events that can lead to it for a caregiver. They don’t know what to do or where to start. Having a plan for change might be the remedy.
F is FRUSTRATED…
As families begin to care for a loved one, they seek information from many different sources about in-home care, facility care, and how to pay for it. They quickly become overwhelmed by the amount of information on the internet, and don’t know where to start; “There’s no way to verify what I am reading”, “One site contradicts another about Medicare vs. Medicaid and how to pay for care”, and “How would I even start to decide between in-home care or the dozens of nursing homes in Delaware?” Frustration sets in. This is a clue that the client knows something needs to change but has become frustrated with the magnitude of information, or the inability to guide their family.
Relief comes in the form of an action plan to get the care that is needed in place, identify all available resources to pay for it, and set assets aside.
