March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month was proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in March 1987. The purpose of this awareness is to create improvements in the lives of the 4.6 million Americans who live with developmental disabilities.
Individuals with developmental disabilities require unique special needs planning. A properly drafted and funded special needs trust can ensure that a special needs beneficiary has sufficient assets to care for him or her, in a manner intended by loved ones, throughout the beneficiary’s lifetime. It is important to understand the pitfalls associated with special needs planning. Make sure you are working with a qualified attorney when planning a special needs trust.
The Delaware Elder Law Center provides legal services to protect individuals with Developmental Disabilities in the following ways: Wills, Special Needs Trusts, Power Of Attorney, Advanced Healthcare Directive, and Guardianship Proceedings. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding planning for special needs beneficiaries.
